Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to use a script consultant?

Because we said so. No, seriously, you do not have to use a consultant. However, it helps to have your script read with objective eyes to give you an edge over the competition.  Many professional screenwriters still use good script consultants, such as Linda Seger, in order to strengthen their scripts.

What are my other options if I cannot afford it?

Writers groups. According to our founder, very few writers groups are helpful due to the members' inexperience, although they mean well. So, if you join a writers group, make sure the other members have written and polished at least two screenplays and have taken screenwriting classes. Another cost-effective option is to have your script critiqued in a screenwriting class. However, we are confident that you will find that our services are of optimimum value for minimum price.

When should I use a script consultant?

You should consider a consultant after you have re-written your script numerous times and polished it as much as possible after an incubation period. Some screenwriters consider a consultant when they need further direction with upcoming rewrites.

What are your rates?

We offer rates low enough without comprimising quality. Please see the "prices" page.

We now offer an English translation rewrite of your full length Arabic screenplays of up to 120 pages. This includes rewording of dialogue that might not translate well into English. This does not include standard script consultation.

Major or minor script rewrites for script in English include a two hour phone consult on the first thirty pages only and a complete rewrite of the entire script. This price is for one script rewrite and one two hour thirty page consult only. We can not do more rewrites for free if you do not like our rewrite, unless it is for either pgs1-30, 31-90, or 90-the final page.

Why is your rate lower than other consultants’ rates?

We understand that most aspiring screenwriters are not rich. We believe that an in-depth consultation should be reasonably priced.

What is "coverage?"

By popular demand, we now offer coverage. Coverage is a report that a Script Analyst or "Reader" writes up for a production company that offers details about a read script that includes recommending it or "passing" on it. A pass means a script was turned down. Any further questions about this, please e-mail us.

What does your service include?

At least three complete reads. The critiques are customized to each script. However, generally our service covers line-by-line, scene-by-scene editing, plot editing, characterization, format, inconsistencies, dialogue, first reactions, etc. Follow-up e-mails within a week of consultation are encouraged. In-person two-hour consultation is included in the price.

What is your turnaround?

3-6 weeks.

Can I try a sample of your service?

Absolutely. We will provide our in-depth critique of 10 pages for FREE time permitting!!

Do you provide detailed proofreading?

We work with a freelance proofreader who has been a court reporter and proofreader for 8 years. Please see the "prices" section. Please note that spelling mistakes and occasional grammatical punctuation are covered under our in-depth critique service for no extra charge.

Are there cheaper alternatives to a professional proofreader’s services?

Yes. Many good books such as The Elements of Style can be found at your local library for free.

What types of payment do you accept?

Cashier’s check, personal check, and money order only. We wait for checks to clear before we critique. All payments must be sent by mail. This is done for your safety and ours.

Okay.  I'm interested.  How and where do I send my script?

You can e-mail it to sm@thescriptarchitect.com in pdf, fdr, doc formats only. Please make sure that scripts sent in doc format do not lose the standard screenplay formatting. Also, do not send us scripts that are not copyrighted with the Library of Congress or registered with Writers Guild of America.  When you are ready to send your payment via mail, e-mail us.

What if I have more questions?

Feel free to e-mail us just to ask questions. Our job is to help you.
